Robert
Tilton - Praying for the peace of Jerusalem
There's one aspect of Robert Tilton
Ministries that, while it doesn't exactly fall under the missions category, still
is a powerful outreach to the world. For two years now, Bob Tilton has
gone to Israel for a special series of broadcasts directly from the Holy Land.
As he does this, Bob is answering a two-sided call: the biblical command for us
to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem," a command that takes special significance
in these turbulent times in the Middle East; and, second, to draw people's eyes
to Israel, the focal point of biblical prophecy. Telecasting from Israel is a
way to minister to American Christians, since, Bob says, "The Bible makes
it clear that we are blessed when we bless Israel. Also, praying for people's
needs right there in the holy land of the Bible helps to build people's faith."
It is one more aspect of Bob Tilton's commitment to minister God's love and compassion
to the world.

How effective are such crusades in terms of permanent results? Months after the 1990 crusade in Coimbatore, Jack Harris, crusade coordinator and a graduate of Word of Faith Bible School, whose work in India is sponsored by this ministry, sent a report about a few of the enduring fruits of the campaign:In the two weeks following the cru-sade, 150 new people contacted the pastor of one of the 128 sponsoring churches. One church over 60 miles from the crusade site had 28 new people the following Sunday. Many churches conducted a six-week New Believers class, designed to follow-up and disciple these new Christians. One church, planted in 1988, had 80 members. After the crusade, they conducted the follow-up program and had 80 new people attend - doubling their membership.Another church took the follow-up slips for its area and sent letters to 300 people. It now has 160 new Christians attending these classes.Jack Harris finished his report on this jubilant note: "Three families from one village attended the crusade. After the crusade was over, they contacted a pastor in Udamalpet and told him that the whole village wanted to become Christians. Almost every day I am receiving reports [from the pastors] about how this meeting has shaken the whole district."Bob places great importance in building up the faith of new believers. To make sure they would have ade-quate follow-up, he had a pastors' conference in Madurai, to encourage the local leaders for the task of strengthening the faith of those who had come to know the Lord through the crusade. Before returning to the States, Bob also held a pastors' conference in Madras, with 450 pastors and leaders in attendance. Madras, a bustling city of 8,000,000 people, was chosen as the possible site of next year's crusade.Places like south India, for example. It's harder to reach those locations, and transporting the equipment necessary for a crusade is not only expensive but time -consuming and tedious.Yet no cost is too high for the joy in the faces of people who are hearing, maybe for the first time, about a God who loves them unconditionally. To the people of India, bound by idolatry and the constant burden of having to appease angry deities, the message of the Gospel sometimes sounds almost too good to be true.India is the second most populated country in the world, and only 3% of its 850 million people are Christians. This makes it one of the most unreached countries in the world. When we consider that fact, it's easy to understand why Bob felt he HAD to go to India last February, war or no war. He was thinking of the 824,500,000 who have still to know the Lord. The 1991 crusade was held in Madurai, about 120 miles southeast of Coimbatore, the site of last year's crusade. For five nights, the Gospel message echoed through this temple city, steeped in religion and idol wor-ship but ignorant of the true God.Fifteen thousand gathered for the first meeting-the largest opening night crowd ever in Madurai, according to a local pastor. Yet as word spread through the city, the crowds swelled until, at the last meeting, the place was packed with 90.000 souls thirsty for the living waters.Miracles of healing and deliverance were too many to count. One young man, in his twenties, had been demon possessed to such an extent that he was eating rocks and gravel. Set free the first night he came to the crusade, he came back the following night and testified of his deliverance.Every night there were manifesta-tions of God's healing power. Lame people walked, the blind were able to see, the ill were healed. One young Hindu man, who had suffered for ten years from a rash that caused itching all over his body, was instantly healed when Bob prayed for him.One night the Lord prompted Bob to pray for the deaf. Many had their hearing restored, and the first sound they heard were praises to God for His miracle-working power. Among them was a little girl, about seven or eight years old. The mother had taken her to the doctors, who said the girl had "a hole in her ears" and would never be able to hear. Her smile when she was able to hear for the first time brought tears to people's eyes and prompted Bob to say. "This makes it all worth it'"But the most important result of the crusade was in the spiritual realm. Thousands every night responded to the altar call and were rescued from the kingdom of Satan, to become children of God.
